Studio Weave has been commissioned by Milton Keynes Arts Centre to conduct a feasibility study with test projects. A Space of Possibilities is a collaboration with MKAC and its local communities, by bringing families together to explore what the site has to offer and uncover its strengths through making and learning.
Through a series of workshops that share themes of craft, narrative and co-design, we have been exploring the potential of the site at Great Linford.
In 2014 we delivered two workshops, both well-attended by local families: sitcom-writing and performance based on the different characters of the buildings at MKAC, and stool-making in collaboration with Andy Trotman from Timberwright and furniture maker Sebastian Cox, offering the opportunity for children to learn new skills with traditional woodworking skills and use local timber harvested from less than a mile away by the Parks Trust.
Over two weekends in April 2015, we teamed up with Andy and Sebastian once again to build a temporary timber structure with children ranging from 5 to 17 years old. It was handmade by a collaborative effort – every line sawed, hole drilled, edge sanded and shape painted was an essential part of the process – the outcome is an outdoor stage, workshop space and park shelter all rolled into one, and will host a series of different workshops over the summer. The colourful, friendly new character joins the family of buildings that comprise the arts centre and invites play and interaction.
